Once again, it has been a very busy week here in Wausau. Of course the Wisconsin Valley Fair has been center stage for most of the week. I managed to get out there once or twice and bring back a few shots.
Also this past weekend the YMCA hosted the Wausau Triathalon. For those of you who don’t know about these lunatics, ummmm, I mean athletes, they run a little race where first they swim, then bike and then run. The distances vary from event to event, but in this case the “long course” consisted of a 1/2 mile swim, 28 mile bike and 6.2 mile run. Not bad for a morning’s outing. For some reason the kids really wanted to see this event and we ended up spending the whole morning watching things. I do have the say that the YMCA seemed to run a dynamite show out there. There were tons of volunteers and everything looked like clockwork, so kudos to them!
At the fair, I got around a bit to the various events, some of which were more photogenic than others. The big hit for the kids was the Ag Adventure tent across from the Youth Building. Who knew kids could have so much fun in a wading pool filled with corn or soybeans? Just a note to the organizers — no pool of cotton seeds next year! In addition there was cheese to sample from local dairies, Yo-J to drink, a petting zoo, activities and give aways. Definitely a kid pleaser!
Friends of ours were competing in the horse events, and it seemed that everytime we drove onto the fair ground they were just getting ready to compete, so we spent lots of time at the horse ring cheering on Kiana and Marissa. Sometimes the events didn’t make much sense to us city dwellers, and some of them were just amazing, well worth the time spent.
But I have to say by the end of the week, we felt like this poor guy! Of course there is more at the Flickr site.
